The Colonial, Taman Danau Desa

I don't usually go to Taman Danau Desa, but over the weekend I was there with my boyfriend because he has a appointment with his client. Our plan was go there for lunch first then only see his client. We don't know what is good to eat, we just park the car near the client's place and walk around see what's good to eat.

As we walk around, we saw this shop call The Colonial. This shop caught my attention because of it's old colonial style. We look through the menu first then only decide to dine here.

Following is what we ordered:

Butter Pork Rib with rice
The meat is slightly tough. Overall the taste is nice and
the butter sauce is great to mix and eat with the rice

Char Kueh Tieu
Hawker stall char kueh tieu is still the best. The char kueh
tieu is very bland and I think the chef didn't fried with very
high heat otherwise can taste the flavour on each and
every piece of the kueh tieu

Korea wave

My boy friend and I have always been a fan of Korean food, especially Kim Chi and barbeque cuisines. Last Sunday evening both of us were watching K-drama and were thinking where we should we go for dinner. Suddenly the TV screen show a scene of a family eating korean barbeque beef. At that moment both of us have the urge of eating korean barbeque. I suggested why not we go to Seoul Garden in One Utama for korean berbeque buffet. Without second thought he said yes.

When we reach there, we were kinda disappointed because it doesn't have large buffet selection as what others buffet offered. The buffet line here has 2 selections: barbeque and steamboat selection. The soup for the steamboat you may choose tom yam, chicken or kim chi soup. Since we are craving for korean food of course we go for kim chi soup. The soup was bland, it was like they add a touch of kim chi and boil the soup. So what I did was, I took some kim chi from the buffet table and add it into the soup to make it more tasteful.

I'm not going to talk about every single dish one by one. But there are 2 dishes that I would want to share because I really like it. Firstly is teriyaki fish, the fish was fresh, juicy and chucky. Secondly is the mutton, it's not label so i'm not sure what kind of marinade they used but it taste great. Most of the mutton is fat cut and I have to slowly dig for those that got less fat.

I'm surprise to see bloggers give good comment about this restaurant. Was I too picky or I put too high expectation? Frankly I find RM35+/pax is not worth to pay for this kind of poor selection.

Umai-ya @ Damansara Perdana

2 weeks ago we ( Kar Yen, Jien Feng and I) gave SP a birthday treat at Umaiya. I insisted that we go to the outlet in Damansara Perdana because I find the food here is better as compared to the other outlet in Uptown.

We were lucky to have a private room because we never make reservation. Everyone had great time and were satisfy with the food served. Most importantly the birthday girl enjoyed the food especially the udon noodles. She claimed that it was the best udon noodles she ever tasted.

Dragon Maki - unagi, cucumber, prawn and avocado
My all time favourite maki. It was a superb
combination of flavours.

Saba shioyaki - grilled mackerel
Must order this, it was a awesome dish! Imagine alone
I can finish the whole fish

Una cheese maki - rice roll with unagi, cheese and fish roe
The taste was good, but I don't quite like the texture because this
maki doesn't taste how a original maki should be. Rightfully,
a maki should consist of crunchy ingredients such as
soft shell crab or tempura prawn.

Chawanmushi
silky smooth chawanmushi

Sushi platter - part of the bento set

Veggie tempura

Green tea ice cream and Goma ice cream
Goma ice cream made of black sesame and peanut. The great thing about this ice cream is the sweetness of the ice cream is balanced by the saltiness of the peanut.

tea time @ rasah jaya, seremban

Recently, I went to Seremban to attend my cousin's wedding. As we all know that normally Chinese wedding dinner never start on time and always start late like 8.30pm. Normally I'll have something light so that I'm prepared for late dinner.

My uncle took me to this restaurant in Rasah Jaya to have tong sui before we go for the wedding dinner. Restaurant Bubur Manis Zhuan Kee is a place to meet whereby in front of the shop have ample of parking and they snacks that they served is cheap and tasty. Here they have variety of hot and cold dessert, wide selection of kuih-muih and local fried noodle.

Choco Pie: cake with marshmallow cream inside

I was watching a drama starring Rain. In that drama, his daughter, Bori loves to eat choco pie. Choco pie is a popular snack in Korea. It is actually two layers of cake with marshmallow in between and chocolate coatings.

Last weekend I bought a box of choco pie from a Korea Mart in Desa Sri Hartamas to give it a try.

One box contain 12 packs of choco pie RM10.90

After a bite, I love it very much. It felt a bit chewy on the mouth and that was the marshmallow has the chewy feeling. The cake was foamy, soft and coated with rich chocolate but not too sweet.
Choco pie makes a great snack for kids and after dinner dessert for a family.

Naili's Place @ Sentul

Naili's Place in Sentul was a nice place to go for dinner. The place is surrounded with music and natural setting. The food was great, especially the nasi lemak and ABC.

ABC special RM6.00
Still taste good like last time.

Rainbow Tree RM10.90
Mixture if Kiwi, Strawberry and Mango. Refreshing
drink but is kinda too rich and is very sweet.

Spaghetti Marinara RM15.90
Seafood sauce with prawn, squid, tuna and musses.
Nice sauce but the spaghetti is a bit too soft.

Fish and Chips RM18.90
Fish fillet is over fry, the batter coating is too hard.

Tom Yam Beehoon
Tom Yam soup is nice.

Sizzling Chicken RM27.90
The sizzling plate is too hot until the gravy all dried up.
The potato wedges and broccoli is burned due to the plate over heated.

I was kinda disappointed with the food, it just doesn't taste as good as it used to be. The standard dropped a lot compared to years back. Is either they have change the chef or business is too good that they don't bother about the food quality?

Leo's Cafe with Amber Chia as ambassador

Cafe also have ambassador???

Leo's concept - Trendy cafe offers a unique lifestyle concept in the food and beverage industry. This uniqueness is based on its innovative & creative selection menu for the current food trend, coffee, pastry and in-house made Gelato.

Go Green RM5.80
Green tea with a wedge of lemon. The glass is very small
and filled with a lot ice and a huge lemon. Therefore the
drink is very little and it's freaking expensive drink.

Leo's enrich coffee mixed with milk tea RM2.50
Leo's 'cham' is too diluted.

Clay pot teriyaki chicken rice RM8.80
This is one of their recommendation dish. The chicken thigh
cooked with kikoman teriyaki sauce is juice and tender but
it's cold when it served. I don't find this dish special and is
not up to my expectation. If this is really their recommendation
dish, I think the owner have a lousy sense of taste. One more thing
I must highlight, this dish wasn't cook in the clay pot, it's
actually served in clay pot.

X.O sauce Fried rice with chicken RM7.80
Hardly can taste any X.O sauce and it's luke warm when it served.

Nowadays there are so many of this kind concept cafe with great interior design, cozy and innovative menu. But end of the day how many of this concept cafe serve great food? Normally I don't set too high expectation towards this kind of concept cafe.

The food price is reasonable but the drinks and dessert is expensive .

Korea Black Bean Sauce Noodle

Past few days have been raining a lot. I tend to get hungry easily and strong hunger sensation when the weather is cold :) Tonight my boy friend suggested to cook Korea black bean sauce noodle 炸酱面 for supper and I think is a great idea.

Nong Shim brand black bean sauce noodle -RM3/pkt
Nong Shim is a quality and famous brand in Korea.

Black bean sauce noodle is a dish consist of noodle topped with thick savory fried black bean sauce made from cultured soybean.

top: powder soup packet
bottom: olive oil seasoning packet

Suggested cooking direction:

boil water, add noodle and powder soup packet with dried vege.

drain out the water and keep 6 spoonful of water

add the seasoning oil packet into the noodle, stir well and serve

The texture of the noodle is chewy and it taste flavorful because blend well with the black bean sauce. But the only thing have to adjust is the seasoning because it was a bit mild. Add a dash of salt and the noodle will be tastier.
