Tien Pin Mee Pok

Mee Pok is a type of Teow Chew dish and is usually served tossed in oil from frying lard ( chu yuo zha ). It is a staple offering in hawker centers and coffee shops in Singapore.

Dry Mee Pok with chili RM5
A bowl of home make fish ball with home make fish cake served together with the noodle

The sauce that tossed in is very important for ensuring good smooth texture in the noodles.

Fried Chu Cheong Fun RM 3.50
Is one of those ordinary fried chu cheong fun you can get in a Dim Sum restaurant.

Mini Dumpling RM6
Nothing spectacular

The presentation of the Mee Pok might look very simple but it is delicious and very fragrant. Every single strand of noodles are coated with the oil from the frying lard which is the most essential part of the dish. One minor setback is the noodle is a bit soggy. Home make fish ball and fish cake were good. You can taste the fishball made from fresh fish and you taste more fish than flour.

The Colonial, Taman Danau Desa

I don't usually go to Taman Danau Desa, but over the weekend I was there with my boyfriend because he has a appointment with his client. Our plan was go there for lunch first then only see his client. We don't know what is good to eat, we just park the car near the client's place and walk around see what's good to eat.

As we walk around, we saw this shop call The Colonial. This shop caught my attention because of it's old colonial style. We look through the menu first then only decide to dine here.

Following is what we ordered:

Butter Pork Rib with rice
The meat is slightly tough. Overall the taste is nice and
the butter sauce is great to mix and eat with the rice

Char Kueh Tieu
Hawker stall char kueh tieu is still the best. The char kueh
tieu is very bland and I think the chef didn't fried with very
high heat otherwise can taste the flavour on each and
every piece of the kueh tieu

First time for everything

This is the first time I'm eating durian mooncake :)

Frankly, the taste is not too bad. But it was too sweet. The whole filling is all durian. I believe durian lovers would love it.

Golden Dragon Boat brand mooncake has a relatively thin crust. The filling taste similarly to the Malacca famous durian kuih do-do.

Chopstick Noodles House Mid Valley

Today went to Mid Valley for window shopping with my boy friend because he wants to look for some interesting product. Since we are going to Mid Valley, I suggested why not we go to Oasis food court to eat the famous Pan Mee. When we reach there only we found out that the food court is closed. Not sure the food court is close for renovation or they close down the place.

Well, no choice we have to go somewhere else for lunch. Both of us feel like having something soupy and we decided to have lunch at Chopstick Noodle House.

We ordered:

Shanghai Ramen with shredded meat and preserved vegetables
上海榨菜肉丝拉面 RM13.90

The noodle was quite springy and the soup was
quite oily as you can see from the photo. The taste
of the soup is nice but is not hot enough.

Prawn Wantan Noodels 鲜虾云吞面 RM11.90
The texture of the noodle is nice but it contain boric acid
so it's a bit bitter. It comes with 5 big fresh prawn wantan.

The quality of service is not so good and the waiters are not so well-trained. First, they don't have enough menu so we have to wait for other customer to finish order the food then only we can have the menu. Right after we have finish our meal, the waitress quickly give us the order chip to make sure the food that we ordered is all served. Hey, the order chip is suppose to give to the customer to check when the last dish are served and is not after we finish eating. I saw one of the waiter bring the bill to the customer and they were just started eating. Obviously, the customer wasn't happy with that waiter.

Hakka Recipe

The signature dish at Hakka Recipe Restaurant is Yong Tau Fu and it is best to eat with the curry Chee Cheong Fun or the normal chee cheong fun roll with dried shrimp.

But because we were too hungry and feel like having something heavy like rice or noodles. Otherwise I would have order the Yong Tau Fu and chee cheong fun.

Curry lo shu fun RM5.00
The curry is too rich and oily.

Hakka fried pork meat rice RM6.50
Only have 3 pcs of pork. The fat in pork is too much,
barely have any meat. The taste of the pork is nice.

The food portion is kinda small, therefore it doesn't really satisfy our hunger. I think partly because we were too hungry :) and to us that was like our appetizer.

Wantan Mee @ Hung Kee, Jalan Loke Yew

Hung Kee serves variety of Chinese food and they are famous forntheir wantan mee. It's been some years since I've visited Hung Kee. Last week, when I was in Kl I took a chance to have my lunch there. I went there with my boy friend and my mom and we ordered:

Siu Kow

Roasted duck and siew yok

famous wantan mee

Guest what? I'm kinda disappointed with the food. We start with the wantan mee first. The noodles was bitter because of the boric acid. Last time their wantan mee were very nice and tasty. My boy friend's feedback was, Koon Kee wantan mee is still the best.

I didn't quite like all the fat on their siew yok but I think it's possible to order the less fatty cuts. I love the siu kau, the stuffing ( mince pork, black fungus & a bit of salted fish to bring out the flavor) is tasty. Lastly is the roasted duck. It had a distinctively herbal aroma but the taste was just above average.

I've no idea how much they cost individually, total is RM40.50 - 'cut throat'
