No MSG

Ying Ker Lou - No MSG is added in the food preparation because diners are very health conscious these days. Also try to strike a balance between taste and healthy eating.

The menu features a variety of authentic Hakka dishes. Therefore it took us a while to decide what to order.

Bak Choi with abalone sauce
There's no taste of abalone at all in the sauce.
I really wonder if they actually put abalone sauce into the dish?

Braised pork belly with yam
It was too salty and makes me thirsty after the meal.

Claypot tofu and mince pork
I enjoyed this dish very much because
of the flavor from the salted fish.

I noticed that most food blogger gives good remarks about this restaurant, personally I find that the food here is just average and it's not as good as it was claimed.

Since there were no MSG added in the cooking, the only way to bring out the flavor of the food is to add more salt, that's the reason why the food is too salty. Too much salt - high sodium causes health problem ( high blood pressure).

FACTS:
MSG is low in sodium, with about a third of the sodium of the table salt. By using a small amount of MSG in conjunction with a decreased level of salt, sodium intake can be reduced by as much as 30-40% while still maintaining the flavor of the food.

I wonder how can they say that their cooking is healthy??

In fact, I think with a proper and limited usage of MSG has no harm and make sure you use the original japanese brand. Also, you do not cook the MSG, you'll just need to dash a little right before your turn off the heat. If you cook the MSG for too long, the substance in the MSG will change and become unhealthy to the body.
